Ante Čačić takes over Croatia reins

On Monday, Croatian Football Federation Executive Committee has appointed 61-year-old Ante Čačić as the head coach of the Croatian national team.
Upon termination of Niko Kovač's contract after European qualifiers in Azerbaijan and Norway, Croatia Football Federation Executive Committee has unanimously appointed the new Croatia head coach, Ante Čačić, with the contract running until the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The Executive Committee is convinced that Čačić and his staff will secure the EURO 2016 berth.
Lokomotiva Zagreb coach has graduated from Faculty of Kinesiology and embarked on his coaching career through Tekstilac, Dubrava, Inker, Osijek, Zadar and Slaven Belupo. During that period, from 1994 until 1998. Čačić was the assistant coach in Croatia U-21.
From 2003 to 2006 Čačić was the assistant coach of Libya manager Ilija Lončarević, and was also appointed Libya U-21 head coach. With the senior national team, Čačić won bronze at Mediterranean Games.
He then returned to club career coaching Kamen Ingrad, Croatia Sesvete, Lokomotiva Zagreb, Dinamo Zagreb, Radnik Sesvete, Maribor and Slaven Belupo. With Dinamo Zagreb, Čačić won the domestic double in 2012 and secured Champions League group stage berth.
His coaching staff will include former national team player Josip Šimunić, defender with 105 Croatia caps; Ante Miše, former Hajduk Split and Istra 1961 coach with seven caps.
