Šuker: "Čačić deserves this post"

Ante Čačić succeeded Niko Kovač as Croatia head coach and HNS president Davor Šuker shared his thoughts.

"We have discussed it in length and I believe that we have selected the best option. I am satisfied, just as I was with previous choices - head coaches that take us to European Championships and World Cups. His contract runs until 2018 and I appeal for unity. Croatia is third in its qualifying group and it will not be easy to reach EURO 2016, but our players deserve full support", said Šuker.

Croatian national football team is now completely focused on European qualifiers against Bulgaria and Malta in October.

"It would not be fair towards the new head coach to discuss other options and terms. We have followed other coaches, had a lot of suggestions, but Ante Čačić deserves this post. He is an experienced coach in Croatian First Division, he has worked with Dinamo in Champions League and Maribor in Europa League, and he knows a lot of national team players from before, which was also important because there is not a lot of time. We rely on Croatian brains, and Croatian Football Federation has always made a good decision. I hope that will stay the same", added Šuker.
