L'Equipe and IFFHS honour Luka Modrić

French L'Equipe selected the best team of 2016, and Croatia and Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić is among the elite, alongside Ronaldo, Messi, and Kante in the centre of the park.

Buffon, Marcelo, Bonucci, Ramos, Dani Alves, Griezmann, and Suarez complete the team.

International Federation for Football History and Statistics ranked the best playmakers in 2016, with Lionel Messi at the top with 172 points.

Luka Modrić and Riyad Mahrez are in fifth position, trailing only Iniesta, Kroos, and Özil. In 2016, Modrić won the Champions League, European Supercup, and Club World Championships with Real Madrid, and reached EURO 2016 Round of 16 with Croatia.
