UEFA has awarded Croatia national team captain Luka Modrić as the best midfielder of the Champions League season 2016/17.
This June in Cardiff, Real Madrid rewrote history and won its second consecutive Champions League title, with Croatian internationals Luka Modrić and Mateo Kovačić contributing to this success.
Croatia captain Modrić's brilliant performances were awarded yet again, at today's Champions League group stage draw ceremony, when UEFA presented the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and striker of the previous season. It was Modrić to take the best midfielder award.
Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus was awarded as the best goalkeepers, and Modrić's teammates Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo received the other two awards respectively.
Cristiano Ronaldo also won the Men's Player of the Year award, while Luka Modrić was fourth - just behind Ronaldo, Messi, and Buffon.
