Croatian international Ivan Rakitić and his Sevilla team won the Europa League final against Benfica, after a penalty shootout.
First Europa League final penalty shootout brought joy to the Spanish side Sevilla, winning its third title in this competition, after UEFA Cup triumphs in 2005 and 2006.
Real opportunities were rare in the Turin match, and the first 90 minutes, as well as extra-time, produced no goals.
In the penalty shootout, Sevilla goalkeeper Beto stopped Cardozo and Rodrigo efforts, while Bacca, Mbia, Coke and Gameiro found the net.
Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitić, Croatian international, played the entire match and lifted the trophy at the end of the victory ceremony.
He repeated the feat of the Croatian captain Darijo Srna, who lifted this trophy as the Shakhtar Donetsk captain in 2009.
Moreover, Ivan Rakitić was awarded as the Man of the Match.
